Meet attorney Pat Lowther.
Hello. I grew up in Winona, graduated from Winona State in 1976, and graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1980. Since then my law practice has progressed from general law to litigation to estate planning.
Living in a small town all my life has helped me see that families, farmers and small business owners have a huge need for detailed estate plans.
Along with my small town roots, having family in Lake City and Westbrook, Minnesota, and departing a large law firm, the appeal of new projects led me to start my own practice in 2013. My wife Michal and I have been married since 1977 and together we have three adult children – Emily, Alison, and Ian. We enjoy gardening and singing in the church choir. I enjoy teaching through educational workshops, meeting great clients and solving unique situations on a daily basis.
In 2013, I helped amend Minnesota statute 291.03 so that qualifying family farm and business owners who placed their assets in trusts or LLCs can qualify for up to $5M in estate tax exemptions.
Currently, I am working on proposed agriculture related legislation through the Minnesota Bar Association, the Farm Bureau, and Farmers Union with several southern Minnesota State Representatives and Senators. I serve on the Legislative Committee of the Probate and Trust Section of the Minnesota Bar Association and am a member of the MSBA Faculty for Continuing Legal Ed Seminar entitled “Keeping The Farm."
